About
Welcome to the Whittier Heights Community Council. Our purpose is to keep the residents and business owners within Whittier Heights informed of happenings in and around Seattle, and to give us all a voice in shaping the changes to our neighborhood. We do this through open meetings with community leaders and through activities the whole community can participate in. We are also the bottom rung of the City Neighborhood Council ladder, and as such we propose ways to spend city funds in the neighborhood and support grant applications.
The Whittier Heights neighborhood of Seattle is roughly bounded by 8th Ave. NW on the east and 15th Ave. NW on the west, by NW 65th St. on the south and NW 85th St. on the north. Our goal is for this area to remain safe, prosperous and beautiful. We meet regularly with the Seattle Police Department to discuss crime and crime prevention. We maintain Baker Park and work to remove asphault from traffic circles and replace it with trees and plants. Our members are active in cleaning up 15th Ave NW to make it safer for pedestrians and to bring in new businesses. In January 2003, WHCC spun off a new organization, the 15th Avenue NW Association for that purpose.
Our meetings are open to all, and we would love to have you attend, whether to ask questions, to volunteer on activities, or just to listen. We generally meet monthly in the Whittier Elementary School library, except for the summer months. Please keep an eye on our news page for meeting announcements. I look forward to seeing you there.
Yours truly,
Andy MacDonald
President, Whittier Heights Community Council
