Baker Park, located between 14th NW and Mary Ave NW just south of NW 85th St. and east of the Crown Hill Safeway, is a community "pocket" park opened officially in 1997 after creation from the joint effort of the Whittier Heights community, Groundswell NW, Ballard members of Seattle Tilth, and the Seattle Parks Dept. with funding from Seattle's Dept. of Neighborhoods and many others. The Parks Dept. does major maintenance, but the community tries to help by volunteering to do weeding, planting and pruning from time to time, hence WORK PARTIES...
Andrea is organizing two "weed and feed" events in Baker Park this summer.
First WORK ONLY...June 12 WEEDING at Baker Park
Those who aren't exhausted from last Saturday's garage sale are welcome to join me as I attack the weeds in the north planting beds...it has gotten way ahead of me. Also, the Parks Dept. has some flowers they will let us plant. Everyone welcome, regardless of gardening skill! Questions, Andrea at 783-6963
Mark your calendars: July 26 and August 26 are the Weed n feed nights at Baker Park. You show up around 5 PM, garden for awhile, we feed you provided I know you are coming so I order enough pizza!! Call Andrea at 783-6963
Yesterday was Garage Sale Day in Whittier Heights. In all, thirty seven sales were conducted, plus a rummage sale at Whittier Elementary. Thanks very much to everyone who worked so hard to make this a success, especially Katherine Cooley who organized the entire effort.
The next meeting will be on June 21st at 7:15pm on the steps of Whittier Elementary (school is closed for the summer). Agenda items include planning for Night Out (August 3rd) and the fall salmon bake, which will happen in September.
